On December 2, 2023, members gathered at the Alliance Française de Houston for the chapter’s annual informational meeting followed by a collaborative Café Pédagogique.

AATF Houston Chapter President Claire Frazier updated members on the chapter’s activities and budget as well as updates from the Trois-Rivières Convention and news from AATF National headquarters.

The group met the Alliance’s Executive Director, Élodie Ricolfi, and heard from Juliette Richoux, the newly arrived Program Officer, Linguistic & Educational Affairs at the Consulate General of France in Houston.

AATF Members presented tips and tricks on a variety of topics for the French classroom.

Shelley Stein presented an activity using a youtube drawing tutorial in French to learn in French to create authentic vocabulary lists for “la maison.”
Boyo Diop showed an inventive project in which students plan every aspect of a trip, including visa applications and logistics, to France using French-language websites.
Enfin, Isabel Hill presented the “A closer look at the lexical approach” to teaching vocabulary. Rather than simply giving lists, Isabel showed how to identify lexical chunks and fixed expressions in authentic materials, how to incorporate them into the lesson, and how to create pedagogical activities with this approach from scratch.
